On 14 June 2025, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, led a delegation to visit the headquarter of GAC in Panyu, Guangzhou. The two sides engaged in productive discussions on deepening China-Ghana economic cooperation and promoting the development of the automotive industry. The Africa delegation was warmly welcomed by the Chinese government representatives including Liu Liu, Deputy Director General of Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office, and Yuan Ruiqiang, Director of African Affairs Department of Guangdong Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, accompanied the GAC senior executives, including Deng Kui, Director of the International Business Department of GAC Group; Wei Haigang, President of GAC INTERNATIONAL; Wang Shunsheng, Vice President of GAC INTERNATIONAL; and Zheng Chunqi, Vice General Manager of GAC AION.
At the meeting, Wei Haigang, President of GAC INTERNATIONAL, extended a warm welcome to the Ghanaian delegation and provided a detailed overview of GAC’s global business presence and its strategic roadmap in the African market.
Wei strongly emphasized that Ghana serves as a strategic anchor for GAC’s expansion in Africa. GAC will leverage its technological strengths in the new energy vehicle sector and its proven success in global localization to further deepen comprehensive cooperation with Ghana and the broader West African region.GAC has always upheld a “service-first, customer-first” philosophy. In every market it enters, the company strives to deliver not only high-quality products, but also an outstanding customer experience. This commitment extends to its global expansion strategy: GAC aims to bring not just vehicles, but a comprehensive ecosystem and a full industrial value chain—ensuring deeper integration into local markets and long-term sustainable development.
Minister Ablakwa highly commended GAC’s outstanding innovation in automotive manufacturing, particularly its global leadership in the field of intelligent connected new energy vehicles. He noted that the Ghanaian government places great importance on its economic partnership with China and views China as a key partner in advancing the country's industrialization and economic diversification.
He added that Ghana is currently pursuing industrial upgrading and transformation, and looks forward to strengthening cooperation with GAC in key areas such as NEV introduction and the establishment of localized production systems. This will drive the high-quality development of Ghana’s automotive industry and make it mutual benefits.
Accompanied by GAC representatives, the Ghanaian delegation visited the GAC Group’s T2 Lobby Exhibition Hall. Through in-depth presentations, the visitors gained valuable insights into GAC’s remarkable development journey, cutting-edge technological innovation, and global business expansion achievements.
These models exhibited such as the globally strategic AION Y Plus and the premium smart SUV ES9, featuring both pure electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains—comprehensively demonstrated GAC’s leading edge in the new energy vehicle sector. The exchange not only deepened the Ghanaian delegation’s understanding of GAC’s strengths but also bolstered confidence in the prospects for future cooperation between both sides.
GAC’s strategic deployment in Africa continues to deepen with encouraging progress. At the recent Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area—Africa (Egypt) Economic and Trade Co-operation Conference, both parties reached key agreements aligned with Egypt’s National Industrial Strategy. These covered localized NEV production, technical collaboration, and policy support. As the third-largest automotive market in Africa and a core COMESA member state, Egypt is considered a critical pivot in GAC’s globalization efforts.
Upholding the philosophy of “local manufacturing, local service”, GAC aims to contribute to Egypt’s “Vision 2030” by establishing it as a strategic hub to expand outreach to surrounding countries and regions.
GAC’s high-quality global expansion continues to gain broad recognition across overseas markets. As a compelling testament to its forward-thinking strategy and strong product competitiveness, GAC showcased its latest generation of smart pure-electric flagship models at the prestigious International Automotive & Supply Chain Expo (Hong Kong).
The exhibition lineup included the trend-setting smart electric SUV AION Y Plus, the rugged smart SUV AION V, the premium electric SUV HYPTEC HT, and the luxurious seven-seat plug-in hybrid MPV E9 PHEV. These models not only represent GAC’s leading expertise in smart connectivity, ultra-long range, and exceptional comfort but also underscore China’s global leadership in new energy and intelligent vehicle technologies. They demonstrate GAC’s commitment and capability to deliver high-value automotive products and services that exceed consumer expectations, marking a new phase of accelerated globalization for GAC
.
The visit of the Ghanaian Foreign Minister marks another milestone in GAC’s practical cooperation efforts across Africa, following its deepened engagement with Egypt during the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo. This visit further consolidates GAC’s strategic partnership with the Ghanaian government, laying a solid foundation for expanded collaboration in the Ghanaian market.
GAC will continue to advance its “One GAC 2.0” global strategy, harnessing premium products, leading technologies, exceptional services, and full-industry-chain ecosystem strengths to deliver better mobility experiences for users worldwide and to contribute GAC’s strength to building a shared future for China and Africa.
